Psalm 1 is a pretty simple, pretty clear and unashamedly concise description of the kind of person God wants us to be. Every commandment God has ever given and will ever give regarding who we are as His children will always agree with Psalm 1.

Psalm 1:1-3 tells us what our lives should and would look like if we obeyed Joshua 1:8. In Part 3 of this ‘Observe and Do’ series, we saw that Joshua 1:8 is about becoming Christ-like. So put another way: Psalm 1:1-3 is a portrait of Jesus Christ our Savior, Redeemer and example.

Obeying what is in Joshua 1:8 means that you avoid the advice and guidance of ungodly people, you refrain from the path followed by sinful people and you do not join in any mockery or denial of Jesus Christ but instead you love God with all your heart, soul and mind and your neighbor as yourself and you meditate on God’s word day and night as a pleasurable habit because you want to get to know God more and more and grow in His grace.

Doing all this means you become like a tree planted by the river whose leaves do not wither. You will then make your way prosperous and have good success. Isn’t that something?! And one of the steps to all this is meditation. Daily and nightly meditation on God’s word leads to happiness.
