Christians are in a cycle of lifelong learning. I would even hazard a guess and say that even when we get to heaven as God’s children, we will probably still be playing catch-up when it comes to our knowledge of Him.
This is not because God has set out to be unapproachable or unknowable. Absolutely not! Psalms 86:11 and Psalms 25:4 show that wanting to know Him is a perfectly legitimate desire that God puts in the heart of his children. I would actually say that He does want us to get to know Him but that there is so much to know that it is either impossible or it detracts too much from the present and being present with Him.
I go into all this because the capacity and ability of God and His word to amaze, encourage and satisfy me keeps leaving me speechless.
As part of our Bible study group, Stood up and Standing Out, we were looking at the Gospel of Luke and specifically the birth of Jesus. To summarize, Jesus had been promised as a child to Mary and Joseph. He was God the Son, except in human form. It was an amazing promise to someone not even looking for a child at the time.
Mary acknowledges the honor of being chosen by God, with clear reference made to her “low estate” in Luke 1:48. She was not royalty, she was not rich and famous; she was just Mary. Yet, it is so interesting that despite this incredible honor bestowed unto her by God, she still ended up giving birth to Jesus in a manger. Not in the main hotel, not even in the lobby, but in the car park – where the cattle were kept!
If I were in that situation, just by looking around, there would be reasonable cause to doubt and wonder if there really was a plan. But we know there was. The changes in my life today and perhaps in the lives of all those reading this, as a result of the life and work of Jesus Christ, is a testament to that plan.
The point of it all being: The plan for your life – God’s actual plan for your life – is bigger than the circumstances that surround you at any one moment. I encourage you today to find His plan, stay true to the plan through thick and thin and wait and see what the Lord will do.
Be blessed.
